Disclosure Scotland
Level 1 disclosure check
available to anyone for a role in Scotland
A level 1 disclosure is the lowest level of criminal record checks and is available for anyone in Scotland. The level 1 check contains details of convictions considered to be unspent. This check can be for anyone, in any role.
A conviction becomes spent when a specific period of time has passed since the date of the conviction.
This period of time is known as a disclosure period. Once the disclosure period ends and the conviction becomes spent, it is not shown on a Level 1 disclosure.
For those working with children or vulnerable adults in selected roles, you may be entitled to a PVG Check through Disclosure Scotland.

The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme
The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme is managed by Disclosure Scotland. It helps ensure people who are unsuitable to work with children and protected adults cannot do regulated roles with these groups.
For roles based in England or Wales you can request a basic, standard or enhanced disclosure through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
